Irrigation Dept engineer faces arrest for contempt

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, April 9: The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly today unanimously resolved to award a civil imprisonment of 30 days to sub-divisional engineer D N Ingle for breach of privilege of the House.

The official resolution of the Privileges Committee was moved by member Sitaram Dalvi, while a proposal was moved by Chief Minister Narayan Rane to provide for a civil imprisonment to the engineer of the Irrigation Department.

According to the resolution, Ingle gave ``wrong and misleading information'' to the Panchayat Raj Committee headed by Raosaheb Danve, during its visit to Chikahli in Buldhana district and also created hurdles in the working of the committee set up by the State Legislature.

Subsequently, when he was suspended, Ingle challenged his suspension order before the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal. In his petition, Ingle had alleged that he was suspended out of vengeance when he refused to pay Rs 3 lakh to Danve, who ``rushed to the press.''

On the basis of the resolution moved by Dalvi,Rane moved a separate resolution urging the Assembly to accept the report of the privileges committee. Both the proposals were accepted unanimously.
