BANGKOK: Myanmar Opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Friday called for a UN resolution on human rights in her country, saying the world had yet to take full notice of the ``worsening'' situation under military rule. In a video recorded message to the 55th session of the UN Commission on Human Rights, she said the oppression of the democratic Opposition by the junta had ``worsened greatly'' in the past year. ``What we need now is more than just mere words,'' the Nobel laureate said in the message, a transcript of which was sent to AFP. ``We hope very much that at this session of the Human Rights Commission a firm resolution will come out which will protect the basic rights of the people of Burma (Myanmar).'' She said repression had increased after her National League for Democracy (NLD) called for parliament to be convened in May last year, in accordance with 1990 polls.

Rushdie among Asian millionaires

LONDON: Leading NRI businessmen brothers Srichandand Gopichand Hinduja, with an estimated wealth of 1.3 billion pound sterling have been named as Britain's richest Asians in the Asian millionaires survey which also includes prominent names like Labour peer Lord Swraj Paul and novelist Salman Rushdie. The survey said Srichand and Gopichand Hinduja topped the list of Britain's richest Asian 200 displacing steel magnate Lakshmi N Mittal, chairman of the world's fourth largest steel conglomerate, who is second with an estimated worth of 1.2 billion pound sterling. Television magnate Subhash Chandra, chief executive of Zee Television, is third with a worth of 450 million pound sterling.
