Lawyers to be off work on Saturdays

CHANDIGARH, April 9: All members of the District Bar Association will abstain from court work on every Saturday with effect from tomorrow. This decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the association held in the District Courts complex today.The meeting was presided over by N.K. Nanda, president of the association.

The resolution has been passed with a view to extend support to the demand of the District Bar Association of Punjab that there should be no working on Saturday and that work should be five days a week.

Besides, it has also been decided that the members will abstain from work on April 12 in order to join celebrations of 300 years of the Khalsa Panth. It was decided that the members would also go to Anandpur Sahib in this connection.

It was decided that in case a member violated the aforesaid resolution, he will have to pay Rs 500 as fine which will be deposited in the account of the District Bar Association.
