Tohra has no concrete issues to fight govt, says Sukhbir Badal

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
LUDHIANA, April 9: ``Gurcharan Singh Tohra is raising matters such as the Prime Minister's visit to Anandpur Sahib because he has no concrete issues to fight the government,'' said Union Minister of State for Industries Sukhbir Singh Badal.Talking to ENS here today, he said there was no threat to the Central government and that ``such hype is created before every session of Parliament. Four or five days into the session and everything will smoothen out. There is no danger to the government, the opposition parties are busy fighting amidst themselves.'' Asked whether he had plans of joining the state ministry, if the BJP-led government falls, Sukhbir asserted, ``I'll continue to remain an MP. In any case the government is not going to fall. However, when one is a member of a regional party such as the Akali Dal, one is always in the know of state politics. One can't lose touch with the grass-roots. We are not the Congress where a leader can be imposed from above.''

Sukhbir had stopped in Ludhiana for a meeting with recently re-appointed Youth Akali Dal chief and Lok Sabha MP Amrik Singh Aliwal and Charanjit Singh Dhillon. Dhillon had been angling for the post after Aliwal's removal. Sukhbir, however, denied Aliwal was re-elevated to ensure Aliwal's vote in Parliament under the current circumstances. ``There is no rift within the Youth Akali Dal,'' he asserted.
