Police yet to make breakthrough in couple's murder

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
GURGAON, April 9: Almost two months after the murder of advertising consultant Sudhir Lal and his wife Kiran Lal, the police have yet to make a breakthrough in the case. The couple was bludgeoned to death on the night of February 21 and the way they were murdered suggested the involvement of Bawaria tribals.

Senior police officials said that special teams had been constituted to trace the culprits, but due to the nomadic lifestyle of the Bawarias, they have not been able to apprehend the assailants.

The assailants had forced their way through the wire mesh door of the couple's sector 17 house and clubbed the couple to death with heavy objects while they were asleep. The blood-soaked bodies of the victims were found in the morning by the servant, Shambhu, and the driver. The assailants had ransacked the house and the police concluded that robbery was the objective behind the couple's murder.

The incident led to panic, to the extent that Chief Minister Bansi Lal visited the slain couple's house and ordered a crackdown on the criminal tribes.

But more than a month later, the police have been unable to make any progress in the case. The police have, however, stationed a PCR van in the sector around the clock and set up a chowki in the sector. The administration also demolished some illegal hutments in the adjoining area and reactivated security checks at the entry points.
