NEW DELHI, APRIL 9: With political developments hotting up, the Election Commission has ordered the revision of electoral rolls across the country starting from April 20.Assam, Bihar and Jammu and Kashmir have been excluded from the month-long exercise due to the existing political situation in these states. The revision of electoral rolls in these three states will be taken up at a later date.
The `summary' revision is aimed at updating the electoral rolls with the inclusion of a number of new voters and others whose names had been omitted from the list earlier. The complete updated list is expected to be published in June.
Polls are scheduled to be held within the next few months in Goa, which is under President's rule since February.
The Election Commission has ordered a `special revision' of electoral rolls in Madhya Pradesh, Tripura and Goa.
The Election Commission has said that the summary revision of electoral rolls was a `routine' exercise and was in no way related to recent politicaldevelopments.
Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will make themselves available to the public on four days during the exercise to enable both the public and political parties to make their entries.
