Shock pad beckons BHA meet

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, APRIL 9: The fate of Mumbai hockey rests with the executive committee of the Bombay Hockey Association (BHA). The committee will meet Monday to decide whether the BHA should airlift 500 square yards of urethene foam shock pad, a mandatory ingredient for re-laying the turf at its stadium.

Visiting AstroTurf consultants, Gord Kerr and Jason Cunningham, are currently in Jammu, and BHA intends to procure the pad before the duo leaves the country, in less than a fortnight.

BHA has identified a supplier near London, and has obtained an invoice from them. While the shock pad costs $ 6,250 (approx Rs 2.67 lakh), the air freight is the whopper, about $ 6,000 (approx Rs 2.56 lakh).

There is every indication the committee will decide in favour of procurement. BHA officials said they were in constant touch with the experts, and were apprising them of the developments.
