Easy for Customs, Rizvi

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, APRIL 9: Mumbai Customs and debutants Rizvi Sports Club recorded convincing wins to set up a semi-final clash in the St Peter's Youth Centre hockey tournament. Customs defeated Rebels 2-0, while Rizvi thumped Greater Mumbai Police 3-1 at Donnelly Gymkhana, Bandra today. All six goals came in the respective second halves.

While Customs hold the edge in the semi-final tomorrow, it is the exuberant clash of youth, which both teams possess in abundance, that excites.

With Suresh Pereira and Errol D'Silva in the forward line, and Adolf Colaco and Rahul Singh manning the half, Customs are formidable. All four are back from a good semi-final finish at the Hyderabad Nationals, while the first three named are in the India probables list.

Suresh, in particular, was in good touch. He opened Customs' account with a delightful reverse deflection off a penalty corner, and Vijay Alphonso sealed the win with another deflection in the 37th minute.

Errol had two good cracks, both wide, from the right, and wasprobably cheated of more passes, as play was concentrated in the left flank.

For Rizvis, collegian Asad Khan, who, along with defender Sridhar Murthy, quit Tatas after the Nationals, was delightful. He was replaced in the first half, despite a few runs down the left, probably for retaining the ball too long.

But he made amends with a brace in the second, while Elton Menezes completed the tally. Kishore scored the lone goal for the policemen.
