Paes-Bhupathi clinch thriller

Chennai, April 9: Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi staved off three match points to snatch an exciting 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (7) win against Mark Keil (US) and Andre Sa and reach the men's doubles semifinals of the Gold Flake Open 99. In a remarkable match that aroused the passions of the huge crowd, the finish was an anti-climax when Keil double-faulted with Indians leading 8-7 in the tie-break.

The proceedings swung one way and the other.Much of the drama came in the tie-break. Sa and Keil led 6-3 on serve and appeared well set to close the match. But Paes and Bhupathi cheered on by the partisan crowd fought back brilliantly and took four points in a row to move to 7-6 before clinching the issue.
