CHANDIGARH, April 11: City Mayor Kewal Krishan Adiwal today visited Sector 46, which is represented by former mayor Gian Chand Gupta and gave a patient hearing to the grievances of shopkeepers and residents. The shopkeepers pointed out that the market was facing an acute water crisis. They said a site had been earmarked for the development of the Sector, but no concrete steps had been taken in this regard. The shopkeepers further informed the mayor that the public toilets in the market were in a miserable state and they could not be used in a proper way. Some of the unoccupied plots had also turned into death-traps whenever it rained, they added.
The Mayor also took a round of the market and assured that works pertaining to the Municipal Corporation will be taken at a priority basis. He also assured he would take up the matter with officials concerned for early redressal of their grievances.
Meanwhile, the Arya Public School, Sohana, held a function in connection with the tercentenary celebrations of the Khalsa and the mayor was the chief guest. He said the teachings of the gurus should be followed in the right manner. ``It is due to their sacrifices, we are living in peace and harmony,'' he added.
