ONGC project bags security trophy

VADODARA, April 11: The Ahmedabad project of ONGC was conferred ONGC Western Region's Security Trophy for the year 1998 for overall security functioning during the year 1998. Major N C Gogoi, Chief Manager (security) of Ahmedabad Project received the award on April 7 from the Executive Director, WRBC. An area of more than 6000 kms, covering four districts of Ahmedabad, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, and Kheda with over 1000 wells and 60 vital installations has been provided security by the Ahmedabad Project. The project was adjudged the best amongst five projects of the Western Region.

The award was conferred during the 33rd security fire and vigilance meeting in Vadodara on April 7. Various issues, including oil field patrolling, security coverage of trunk pipelines and joint patrolling by police/ONGC Security personnel, contact security guards, mock security, fire exercises were taken up at the meeting.

Volleyball tournament: For the first time, ONGC, WRBC organised an open Gujarat Volleyball Tournament at ONGC Stadium, Vadodara. The tournament was organised by K G Gupta, Group General Manager (P&A), president, Regional Sports Council. While on April 6, six teams played in the various matches, the play's second day saw four teams clash. The opening day saw ONGC, Railways and State Bank of Saurashtra winning their respective matches.

AIDS awareness programme: The Employees' Welfare Committee of Regional Office, ONGC, Vadodara and MSU's Centre for Continuing Adult Education and Community Services, Department of Home Science organised an AIDS awareness programme on April 9. The troupe of girls from Dabka village demonstrated through role-play the various aspects of AIDS, like various misconceptions on AIDS, means through which the disease can be contacted and its preventive measures.
