Srinath, Fazal crash out
More than the absolutely disappointing performance of the second rung of India's tennis hopefuls, what took centrestage at the $50,000 Servo Indian Oil Challenger was the killing heat which left the players to watch their health than their tennis, today. The doctors at the venue were kept busy with complaints of dehydration and accompanied illnesses.

Jadeja's leadership
If a week is a long time in politics, three days is an eternity in the game of cricket. It was only that long ago that India were at their wits end after taking yet another hammering from Pakistan, then suddenly an injury to Mohammed Azharuddin propelled Ajay Jadeja into the captaincy and the transformation has been evident. Jadeja is a natural leader - he complements his outgoing personality with a good cricket brain.

Indians fined
Match referee for the Coca-Cola Cup one-day series here, Sidharth Wettimuny of Sri Lanka has fined the Indian team twice for their failure to bowl the required number of overs during their first two games against England, on April 9 and 11. Ten per cent of each players' match fee was cut for the April 9 game and 20 per cent for the next game. On both days, the game went 23 minutes beyond the scheduled time with the Indians bowling last.

Vijay Amritraj
The gathering waited in awe for the man who played tennis with American presidents in the White House, dated Hollywood gliterrati and smashing Supermodels and made as much impact in the boardroom among corporate heavyweights as he did on tennis courts against the likes of Rod Laver and Jimmy Connors.

Dream debut
A record 4-24 debut by West Indian pace bowler Hendy Bryan continued the stunning reversal of his team's fortunes and lifted them to a convincing 44-run win over Australia in the first match of the One-Day International series. Chasing the home side's modest 209 all out, the Australians subsided to 165 all out in 41.5 overs yesterday.
