Rs 22 lakh theft -- Servant held from Amravati hospital

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NAGPUR, APRIL 13: Sunil Poshan Mandal, the man suspected behind the sensational robbery of about Rs 22 lakh cash from the house of haktikumar Sancheti at Gokulpeth here, has reportedly been nabbed amid strange circumstances by the Chandur railway police.

Sources said, a team of the Ambazari police, which is probing the matter, left for Amravati on Monday to take custody of Mandal. According to reports reaching here, Mandal, a servant employed by the Sanchetis for the last five years, was in the city on Monday. He boarded a train from Nagpur railway station early Tuesday morning along with the alleged stolen cash.

On board the train, he bumped into some anti-social elements who, he suspected, were after him. In an attempt to get rid of them, he jumped from the moving train near Chandur railway station and sustained injury. Mandal was then rushed to Irwin Hospital at Amravati by the railway police for medical treatment.

During this, he reportedly told the doctors at thehospital that he was working with the Sanchetis and one of the doctors, who happened to know Sancheti, immediately got in touch with the latter on telephone. It could not be known immediately as to whether the cash was recovered from Mandal. The city police expect to establish the entire incident once Mandal is brought here, sources said.
