Lok Adalat today

SURAT, April 13: The Gujarat State Legal Services Authority Board, Surat District Legal Services Authority Board, Surat District Bar Association and Choryasi Taluka Legal Services Committee have organised a Lok Adalat on Wednesday, on the occasion of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar birth anniversary.

Claims related to rent/illegal occupation, standard rent applications, civil suits, Hindu Marriage applications, criminal cases and maintenance cases will be taken up at the programme to be held at the district court premises in Athwalines.

Efforts will also be made to dispose of marriage related cases brought by Surat Akhil Hind Mahila Parishad through conciliation. Also, another programme in association with Social Defence Department of the State government will be held at Nari Saurakshan Gruh, Ghod Dod Road at 10 am. Judicial officers and advocates will apprise the audience of legal aspects.

A camp will be held in association with Welfare Department at Amroli's Community Hall at 1 pm where basic information about laws will be given to participants. A similar programme will be held at an Aanganwadi in Room No 19, Variavi Bazar, Dharatipura, in association with Akhil Hind Mahila Parishad.

Meanwhile, the Republican Party of India has decided to celebrate Ambedkar's birth anniversary by holding various functions. The day will begin with garlanding of Ambedkar's statue on Ring Road, followed by Abhivadan Yatra in the afternoon.

A number of vehicles carrying Ambedkar's portrait will assemble near the Sardar Vallabhbhai's statue at railway station. Led by Mayor Savita Sharda, RPI leader from Maharashtra Pradip Ambhore, Congress leaders Rizwan Usmani, Thakorbhai Naik, Pratapbhai Kantharia, Kadir Pirzada and Mahendrabhai Patel, BJP leaders C R Patil and Ajay Choksi, BSP leaders Hazi Mahmood Pardewala, Janata Dal leader Pawankumar Sharma among other political leaders, the rally will culminate into a public meeting in front of Ambedkar's statute later in the evening.
