CHANDIGARH, April 13: Melody that penetrated the soul, lyrics that reached out to the mind... The sufi music performance by the Wadali brothers captivated the audience in an experience that was pure ecstasy. The duo, Puran Chand Wadali and Piyare Lal Wadali, were in town for a performance at the Tagore Theatre. They started with the recital of Mitar piyare noo haal muridaan da kehana, a shabad by Guru Gobind Singh to resonate with the tercentenary celebrations of the birth of the Khalsa panth. The maestros went on to perform another bhakti kalaam before switching to kawaalis.
Presenting the kalaams by famous sufi poet Bulle Shah, the Wadalis', true to their style, gave a beautiful blend of narration and poetry.
The rather small audience was mesmerized when the brothers performed, Dil dena dil laina, sauda iko jaya. After the song, it was as if the brothers left the listeners in mid-air. After all, Thori bhuk vee rehni chaihidi hai, cheez da swad taan hee rehnda hai, joked Piyare Lal.
