Dingko faces little trouble

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Pune, APRIL 13: Asian Gold medalist Dingko Singh had reasons of his own and the crowd expected better, but the opening day of the Services Boxing turned out to be a lackluster affair at the Army School of Physical Training (ASPT) here today.

Dingko, who entered the ring for the second time since winning the gold at the Asian Games, failed to impress the crowd, employing defensive strategies more often, though he prevailed over D Suresh (Army Green) 43-11 (on points) in the Bantam weight section. ``Not only I wanted to go for the full five rounds, but my opponent was quite strong too, and I did not want to allow him to take an upper hand,'' said Dingko after completing his bout.

Suresh could not judge the fast moving Dingko who pushed him to all corners of the ring. Suresh managed to stand on his feet till the end of five rounds. However, it was Dingko who outscored his opponent with a 43-11 verdict. The bout that followed Dingko's fight, was action packed and in the pounding dished out by Benjamin Siddioutclassed A K Shukla in a matter of three rounds when referee S Behra called off the fight. With this win Benjamin has set up a title clash with Dingko on Thursday.
