Govt eases sugar despatch norms

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, Apr 13: The government today lifted existing restrictions on sugar factories to sell and despatch specified quantity of sugar within a fortnight in line with the central government decision to liberalise the sugar industry.

Currently sugar factories are required to sell and despatch not less than 47.5 per cent of their monthly quota of free sale sugar every fortnight.

Easing of the restrictions will now enable factories sell their monthly quota at any time during the validity period without any restriction on the quantity of the commodity to be sold in a fortnight, an official release said here.

However, the sugar factories will be required to send a monthly report to the directorate of sugar of the department of sugar and edible oils, the press release added.
