Gangster killed in encounter
A notorious gangster was shot dead in an encounter with the police while fleeing after snatching a gold chain at Malad (west) this evening.

Chand Mohammed Sheikh alias Pappu was fleeing after snatching jewellery at around 4.30 pm when he was spotted by a police patrol van. Police gave a chase and fired five rounds at him. Pappu was taken to Bhagwati Hospital where he was declared dead before admission.Sheikh was named in four offences in Malad alone. He was also externed from the area last year.

CM's gift on Firemen's Day
Chief Minister Narayan Rane today donated Rs one lakh from the CM's fund for the welfare of firemen. He was inaugurating the fund-raising campaign for the Firemen's Welfare Fund in a specially organised function at his official residence on the first day of the Fire Control Week today.

Speaking on the occasion, Rane appealed to the people of Maharashtra to donate generously for the noble cause of supporting the families of the firemenwho have made done great sacrifices in the course of their duty. He also said that the government would welcome any suggestions for the welfare of the firemen who were involved in the noble cause of protecting human life and property.
