VADODARA, April 14: Gujarat Refinery employees pledged to work with devotion on the Fire Services Day observed on April 14 to pay homage and tribute to the 66 fire-fighters who sacrificed their lives in Bombay Dock fire in 1944.While administering the Fire Day pledge K K Konar, General Manager (projects) emphasised the need to constantly work to prevent any fire incident. He said Gujarat Refinery had marked a new record in industrial safety and fire-prevention performance by completing 553 days without any major fire incident.
Konar also gave away prizes to the winners of `Fire Safety Competition' which was organised by the Refinery recently to promote competitiveness amongst the fire fighters of industries around. Refinery and GSFC teams won various prizes. Fire-fighters, who contributed in extinguishing a fire which broke out recently at Bajwa market, were also felicitated.
Bhaskar Chowdhary, General Manager (Finance), Anand Rao, Chief Manager (Fire services) and other senior officials were also present on the occasion. A procession of fire tenders was also taken out in the Refinery to generate awareness about fire prevention and safety norms.
New record: The 115-km Koyali-Ahmedabad (Sabarmati) Products Pipeline of Indian Oil, which transports various white oil products like petrol, diesel, kerosene and aviation turbine fuel, has earned a new record during 1998-99 by sending 1.59 MMT of products improving its previous best of 1.57 MMT achieved during 1997-98. In addition to its excellence in pipelines operation, the Koyali-Ahmedabad pipelines has won British Safety Council Award for the eighth consecutive year for its safety performance. The pipelines have also won National Safety Council Award, USA.
