Thakre says greedy Congress is stooping low in lust for power

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, APRIL 14: The BJP today charged Congress with throwing principles to the wind and attempting to grab power ``by hook or crook'' and alleged the Left was indulging in another instance of duplicity and doublespeak.

``The Congress, CPI-M and sundry parties like those headed by Laloo Prasad Yadav and AIADMK chief Jayalalitha have joined hands in an odious anti-people enterprise,'' party president Kushabhau Thakre said in a statement here.

Stating that the mandate of 1998 was clearly against Congress and other marginalised opposition parties, including the Leftists, he said, ``the present Congress leadership and Leftists are now flouting that mandate.''

``Perhaps Congressmen should ponder over whether a party that has gone out of its way to ditch its own allies and tried to destabilise the BJP-led coalition government for the sake of the petty interests of its leader can be relied on,'' he said.

He said the Left, which had publicly declared Jayalalitha ``untouchable'', had now through theCongress made her ``perfectly touchable''.

Thakre said the ``political turbulence'' created by BJP's political opponents, especially Congress and CPI-M, in this past fortnight was bound to be reflected in parliamentary proceedings.

``We can be sure of more disruption and obstruction by our opponents - not over concern for national interest, but to further their naked lust for power at any cost,'' he said.
