Achilefu hat-trick spurs BMFC win

MUMBAI, April 14: Bengal Mumbai Football Club (Mumbai), spurred by Emeka Achilefu's hat-trick, scored a listless 4-1 win over Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bangalore, in the Second Division National Football League at the Cooperage, today.

In the first match of the day Rayalseema Tigers (Andhra Pradesh), scored once in each half to register a 2-0 win over Indian Air Force (IAF), Delhi.Emeka, who was the star of BMFC's win, scored his first goal in the 29th minute off a medio Sanjay Dayal pass.

HAL equalised in the 65th minute when their medio Murali converted a penalty after HAL's striker Sunil Senior was brought down by BMFC custodian Gumpe Rime inside the box.

However, HAL's joy was short-lived as BMFC scored thrice in the space of five minutes. In the 75th minute Emeka converted a spot kick after one of the HAL defenders handled the ball while trying to prevent BMFC medio Kasif Jamal from scoring.

Soon after, Emeka was again bang on target when he booted home a free ball from the centre.Jamal, who too had a good match, rounded-off the tally in the 78th minute off substitute Herbert Philip's pass.

Striker Essa opened Rayalseema Tigers' account in the 22nd minute off winger Seetharama Raju pass, while the latter himself rounded-off the tally with a fine header off substitute David Prasannakumar's floater in the 55th minute. BMFC's Gumpe Rime brought off a fine save in 18th minute. He neatly blocked Xavier's first-timer following a pass Dayanandan.

Two minutes later at the other end, BMFC's Uday Konar got the better off Gangadhar but shot wide off the near post.

BMFC scored through Emeka again in the 27th minute.
