MUMBAI, April 14: Central Bank of India downed Central Railway (Mumbai Division) 2-1 in the opening match of the Guru Nanak Devji hockey tournament, sponsored by Punjab and Maharashtra Co-op Bank, at Khalsa College today.

Vivek D'Souza (22nd min) and Gilbert Bothelo scored for the winners while Aldrin Bird netted the equaliser.

Timothy advances: Timothy Pereira (+50) notched up a break of 22 to beat Nijabai (+55) 107-66, 111-85 in the first-round of the Matharpacady Club Open Handicap snooker tournament for the Sushil R Ruia Challenge Cup, sponsored by Selvel Publicity and Consultant, today.

Other results: S Ghadi (+60) bt P Mukherjee (+60) 130-85, 148-89; J Ramaya (+55) bt R Varghese (+55) 107-85, 108-94; R Ankleswaria (+60) bt Rajit Mehta (+60) 132-82, 113-91.
