MUMBAI, Apr 15: India's largest commercial bank, State Bank of India (SBI), has promoted seven chief general managers as deputy managing directors (DMD). The new DMDs are: CGM (special projects) Janaki Ballabh, CGM (domestic treasury) S Govindrajan, CGM (Bombay circle) A K Batra, managing director of SBI Factors A N Joshi, chief credit officer PN Venkatichalam, managing director of SBI European Bank Ltd (Sabal) R Sundararaman and the managing director of SBI Capital Markets Birendra Kumar.The new DMDs will be allotted portfolios over the next few days, say officials. The posts had been lying vacant due to many retirements and promotions at the top level of the bank.
The posts of DMDs that have been lying vacant are: DMD associate banks, chief corporate officer (CCO), DMD (inspection and audit), chief financial officer (CFO), besides the posts of MDs at SBI Caps, State Bank of Mysore and State Bank of Patiala which are equivalent to the rank of a DMD at the main offices. The interviews for the seven postswere held in New Delhi on April 14 and 17 CGMs were in the fray.
Before taking over as chairman of the bank, GG Vaidya was holding the post of DMD (associate banks) while the current managing director, V Janakiraman was the chief credit officer. He succeeded M P Radhakrishnan who was managing director (corporate accounts group) before becoming the bank's chairman for two months.
The CFO's post has been lying vacant following the retirement of P K Bhattacharjee who stepped down on January 31. SBI Caps MD AR Barwe retired last year. The State Bank of Mysore's MD post became vacant in January when SR Iyer moved to central office, Mumbai.
