Paper mill officials financing Naxals: Minister

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, April 15: Minister of State for Home Prabhakar More said in the Legislative Assembly today that officials of the Ballarpur Paper Mill in Chandrapur district were financing Naxalite groups in the Chandrapur-Gadchiroli belt.

Making a statement on a calling attention notice given by R R Patil, More also disclosed that S Y Khare, a senior mill official, has been arrested for his alleged links with Naxalites.

Replying to a supplementary raised by Ajit Pawar, More said the Government would provide jobs and adequately compensate the next of kin of those killed in the Naxal attack on March 26.

Leader of the Opposition Madhukar Pichad asked the Government to be firm in curbing the Naxal movement in the Chandrapur-Gadchiroli belt. ``My information is that tendu leaves contractors have paid them Rs 5 crore for their safety,'' Pichad added.
