Arlene Helbe gets 2 months for hurling shoe at judges

MUMBAI, April 15: Arlene Helbe, who had thrown a shoe at a division bench of Justice A V Sawant and Justice P D Upasani, was today sentenced to two months simple imprisonment and was taken into custody immediately.

A division bench of Justice Vishnu Sahai and Justice Ranjana Desai today sentenced the woman to prison and rejected her apology for the contempt of court. The bench held that the apology, filed through an affidavit on April 8, was too late and does not explain her action.

The division bench however told her that she could challenge the order in an appeal in the Supreme Court within 60 days and directed that she be provided a free copy of the judgement to enable her to challenge the high court order, if she so wished.
