Repair Board offers rooms for Master list tenants

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, April 15: The Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board has prepared a list of vacant residential rooms in reconstructed buildings available for tenants on the Master list. All tenants on this list may apply for a room, informed the board's chief officer Vandana Khuller on Thursday.

The 355 rooms mentioned in the list have been lying vacant for several years. Earlier, the board had allotted these rooms but there were only few takers. The board decided to give tenants one more chance to apply for these rooms. Though it had not set a deadline the board plans to offer these rooms on free sale to the public if tenants fail to come forward.

The master list comprises tenants of buildings which cannot be reconstructed for various reasons who have been accommodated in extra tenements built in other reconstructed buildings. At present there are about 1000 such tenants.

According to Khuller, the board had offered rooms to 400 tenants who however refused. But the present master list is likely totriple say officials as about 2000 regular tenants presently residing in transit camps have applied to be included on the master list. The board recently has also decided to include tenants who have been living in transit camps for over 20 years in the master list.

A list of all vacant rooms is put up on the notice board in the Board's office at Bandra said Khuller and added that tenants are allowed to give three choices of their preferences. However, the tenements will be alloted on the basis of seniority and the area for which the tenants are eligible.
