Revenue stir continues
The indefinite strike by revenue department employees paralysed work on the fourth day on Thursday as all employees of the city and district abstained from duty. Pravin Desai, president of Surat Jilla Mehsuli Karmachari Sangh said on Thursday that 15 of the total 423 posts were still vacant and with the government proposing a further 20 per cent cut in staff strength of the department, another 71 employees, mainly of the clerk level, would be rendered jobless. Top city police officials held a crime conference on Thursday evening at the commissionerate to review the law and order situation in the city in the past three months. City police commissioner Kuldip Sharma, who presided over the meeting, said the crime graph of the past three months had registered a decline as compared to the previous three months. The commissioner, however observed that the police's image needed to be improved. The meeting was attended by additional commissioners, deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and police inspectors of the city.
Annual reports
The office of the senior factories inspector, in a warning issued to industrialists, has directed them to file annual reports of their units immediately. A release stated that although units were asked to file these reports by January 31, many had defaulted. The release has warned that those who do not file the reports would be liable for fine upto Rs 1 lakh and/or imprisonment upto two-years according to the Factories Act 1948.
2-day workshop
Vadodara: A two-day workshop on `Human rights and Legal Education,' organised jointly by the Faculty of Social Work, M S University and the Centre for Social Justice, Ahmedabad will begin from Friday.
