CHANDIGARH, April 15: After the launch of the new block of its prestigious Hotel Mountview, the Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation (CITCO) has now chalked out an ambitious Rs 2-crore plan of renovating its old block, so as to integrate it with the new one.A plan to renovate Hotel Shivalikview in Sector 17 at a cost of over Rs 1 crore is already underway.
According to sources, the renovation plan comes in the wake of the recommendations of the Industrial Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) study report, prepared on the behest of CITCO, regarding the status of its hotels in the city.
Sources add that the ITDC report mentioned that CITCO's hotel properties in the city were in a run-down state, since the same had not been renovated for many years. As per requirements of the hotel industry, renovations are required every three to four years and thus the need for renovating CITCO hotels, the report had mentioned.
CITCO managing director Satish Chandra said while the renovation of Shivalikview would be complete within the next three months, the renovation at Mountview would start next month and would be complete by September-end.
While the new block has 86 rooms of 5-star status, the old block has 70 rooms which will be renovated at an estimated expense of about Rs 3 lakh per room.
Once the roof-top restaurant of the new block of Mountview is started in another three months, the old restaurant at the hotel is also proposed to be renovated by November, he added.
The CITCO Board of Directors has also given the nod to the renovation plan. It may be recalled that in view of CITCO's privatisation plan of leasing out Hotel Mountview to a private party, the Board of Directors had earlier dropped the renovation plan.
The renovation plan includes changing of carpets, furniture, furnishing and light fittings, besides comprehensive renovation of toilets and door-glass panels. Water supply in the old block is also planned to be improved and carpets replaced with granite in the corridors.
