Doctor shot at
A surgeon was shot at near the Shakuntala Nursing Home in Sagarpur early on Thursday morning. Dr V.S. Solanki -- a resident of Krishna Park in Vikaspuri -- was on his way to conduct an operation, and managed to escape unhurt. The incident occurred at around 4.15 a.m. Solanki got down from his car and was walking toward the nursing home when three men in a Tata Sumo called out to him and then shot at him. An alert Solanki ducked, and the bullets missed him. He immediately raised an alarm and alerted other employees of the nursing home. When the assailants saw a crowd gathering, they fled. The police, meanwhile, are investigating whether the doctor has any enmity with a patient he has operated on in the past.

Constable robbed
Two unidentified miscreants robbed a constable of Para Armed Constabulary (PAC) of Rs 1.25 lakh at noon today. The constable was reportedly on his way home on a scooter with his brother after withdrawing money from the Syndicate Bank in Sector 19, Noida. Two unidentified men on another scooter pushed Udayveer from behind. He fell off the scooter and the miscreants fled with his bag.

Shop looted
The owner of a shop in Timarpur was robbed of Rs 2,500 at gun point on Wednesday night. Two unidentified men barged into 25-year-old Vinod's provision store in Sant Nagar and threatened him. They asked him to hand over all his cash and allegedly threatened to shoot him if he didn't.

Nine arrested
Nine people, including two women, were arrested by the Excise Department on Wednesday for allegedly being involved in eight cases of selling and carrying illicit liquor. This followed raids conducted by the police in Mangolpuri, Nangloi, Najafgarh, Uttam Nagar, Paschim Vihar, Tilak Nagar, Prashad Nagar and Gokulpuri. The department claims to have recovered 636 quarts of Indian Made Foreign Liquor, 184 bottles of country-made liquor and 2,795 pouches of different brands, worth Rs 75,975. They also claim to have impounded one Maruti and two autorickshaws.

Jewellery, cash looted
A woman was robbed of jewellery and cash in Adarsh Nagar on Thursday morning. Suman Gupta was alone at home when two youths, both around 20 years old and armed with knives, entered her house and tied her up in the bathroom before escaping with the cash and jewellery.

Man arrested
The police have arrested Jan Mohammad (40), a resident of Bulandshahar, on charges of kidnapping and murdering an 18-year-old youth, Deepak, in December 1998 in Kalyanpuri.
