New Delhi, April 15: Actor Aamir Khan has said there is `no harm' if the film industries of India and Pakistan can work in joint ventures but politicians have to take steps in improving bilateral relations so that this can happen.``People of the two countries have a lot of respect for artistes and sports people of each other, and there is no harm if the two film industries can work in joint ventures,'' he told PTI.
``I think a lot depends on the relations between the two countries, actually on how politicians frame the policy for that. They have to take the steps before people can start working together,'' said Khan, whose upcoming film Sarfarosh deals with the proxy war being fought from across the border.
The teen heartthrob said it was a `fringe section' which was creating problems in the path of improving Indo-Pak relations. ``It is unfortunate that there is certain section of people which creates trouble...In fact, that is what Sarfarosh is all about,'' he said referring to the film, claimed to be the first Bollywood venture directly naming Pakistan's ISI as the force behind insurgency and related activities in India.
``The common man of India and Pakistan, or for that matter any country, is not really anti any nation. He is more concerned about having a peaceful life and solving problems of his immediate family,'' Khan said.
``I, along with other people of India, have a lot of respect for the people of Pakistan as I have for any other country's people, and like here, people of Pakistan too have high regard for creative and sports people of our country... Lataji (Lata Mangeshkar) is highly respected there,'' he added.
Khan, whose forthcoming films include Deepa Mehta's Earth co-starring Nandita Das and former MTV VJ Rahul Khanna, says naming ISI or Pakistan in would not create any problem as ``our government has already spoken about ISI's role in India''.
``In fact, it would help remove many misgivings from the mind of the common people...It is about how only certainsections are creating all the problem,'' he said.
Khan, who is known to strive for interesting roles despite working within the typical commercial atmosphere of Bollywood where many-a-time finances matter more than the content of a film, said his character in Sarfarosh is that of a straightforward and honest man `with a lot of quiet strength'.
