Dhillon's Khalsa on Jalandhar Doordarshan

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, April 15: Mangal Dhillon's much-talked about and much-awaited docu-drama, `Khalsa', will finally be aired on Jalandhar Doordarshan from April 22 onwards. Scheduled for the 8 p.m. slot, `Khalsa' will unfold as a half-an-hour-long episode for ten weeks.

Addressing a press conference at Hotel Mountview, Mangal said: ``I have tried to be neutral in this project and this docu-drama is not for anyone's entertainment, but for enlightenment. As it details the history there is no playing up of myth in it.'' Mangal is thrilled by the overwhelming response he got after the screening at Anandpur Sahib on April 12 and 14. ``I couldn't have asked for more and many offers came my way for screening it here as well as abroad.'' He intends to take it into the interiors of the state with the help of religious bodies and panchayats. Provided he gets over his financial problems, what with even his house being mortgaged.

Khalsa is written, directed, edited and narrated by this one-man-army. It has gripping music provided by the brother duo Arvinder-Surinder and rendered by Sukhwinder and Sonu Nigam. The album has just been released by HMV. And Mangal adds with his characteristic humour: ``It was like labour pain. I conceived the idea and I went through difficulties. But now my baby is born, and like any woman who wants to be a mother again. I intend to start my mega project.'' And that is From Sikhs to Singhs which will take at least four years to make.
