Kalyan stays as CM, asserts Advani

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
New Delhi, April 15: Union Home Minister L K Advani today ruled out any change of leadership in Uttar Pradesh and maintained that Kalyan Singh would remain the Chief Minister.

State government sources tonight said Advani made it clear that Singh was the Chief Minister and would remain in his post. Earlier in the day, Singh met the Home Minister and apprised him of the political situation in the state.

The meeting assumes significance following the demand by a section of state BJP legislators to replace Singh as CM. Earlier in Lucknow, senior leaders of various political parties who were incidentally here yesterday rushed to Delhi amid hectic political activity in the wake of withdrawal of support by the AIADMK.

Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav and Rashtriya Janata Dal president Laloo Prasad Yadav were here to attend a wedding while CPI general secretary A B Bardhan had come to attend a party programme. Laloo Prasad had gone back last evening but Mulayam Singh Yadav rushed to Delhiimmediately after receiving the news of the withdrawal of support today.
