Sharma and Sehgal pave the way for DS Group victory

NEW DELHI, April 15: An all-round performance by former Delhi Ranji Trophy player Ravi Sehgal and an impressive batting by Ashish Sharma saw DS Group beat Delhi Police by 99 runs in the pre-quarter-final of the Hari Singh Tyagi TYCA knock-out match at NN Mohan Stadium, Mohan Nagar.

DS Group, which elected to bat, piled up 318 for six in the allotted 80 overs. Ashish Sharma made DS Group's day with a breezy knock of 90 runs which included 11 boundaries, while Ravi Sehgal scored 55. A partnership of 101 runs between Sharma and Rakesh Bhatia for the third wicket was the other highlight of the match. Chasing the total, Delhi Police started on a promising note and at one stage were at 151 at the loss of one wicket.

Sanjay Verma and Kuldeep Singh were involved in partnership of 95 runs for the second wicket. But soon Ravi Sehgal came up with his devastating bowling spell and claimed six wickets in quick successions. Finally, Delhi Police were bundled out at 219 in 67.3 overs.

Brief scores: DS Group: 318/6 in 80 overs (Ashish Sharma 90, Ravi Sehgal 55, Rakesh Bhatia 38, Sarvesh Gupta 33, Sanjay Verma 3/81, Sune Singh 2/88) beat Delhi Police: 219 in 67.3 overs (Kuldeep 60, Sanjay Verma 51, Sanjeev Kumar 24, Harish Kumar Handa 29, Ravi Sehgal 6/58, Avinash Kumar 2/43, Tapeshwar Tyagi 2/33).
