CHANDIGARH, April 16: Around 1,000 kundi in the Palsora Colony, adjacent to Sector 40, were removed by the enforcement staff of the UT Electricity Department today. The move follows a news item in Newsline dated April 11, highlighting the rampant power pilferage in colonies located in the periphery.
The operation began under the supervision of duty magistrate K. S. Gill in Palsora Colony at 2 p.m. and moved on to Pir Colony, Vishwakarma Colony, Colony Number 2, Kamal Colony and Indira Colony. The operation lasted four hours and the officials claimed that no untoward incident was reported from any colony during the operation.
Executive Engineer V. P. Dhingra, who supervised the operation, said that 1,400 regular connections had already been provided in Palsora Colony. He accused the residents of being reluctant to accept regular power connections despite repeated requests and urged them to do so.
This operation will remain in force in other parts of the city, he added.
