Agradneya trounce Agnel, join leaders

Mumbai, April 17: Agradneya Vyayamshala, Dombivli joined Our Lady of Fatima at the top of the table with an insipid 34-19 win over Fr Agnel in the junior girls semi-final league of the Savio open basketball tournament, sponsored by Colgate, at Don Bosco, Matunga today. Fr Agnel and Indian Gymkhana are yet to record a win, all four teams having played one match each.

Agradneya took the court without the indisposed youth National Gayatri Manolikar. Despite struggling to gain fluency, they were too powerful for the girls from Vashi. Agnel ran them close in the first half, but left the tall Madhura Bodas unmarked in the second to lose the initiative.

Boys (knockout): Wellingdon Gymkhana 38 (Siraj Ansari 9, Rafique Shaikh 7) bt New Bombay YMCA 10 (I Shankar 4) HT 28-10; Bhanu Talim Sangh, Miraj w/o Chembur English. Girls (SF league): Agradneya 34 (Madhura Bodas 19, Gauri Abhyankar 7) bt Fr Agnel 19 (Anjali Yadav 8) HT 19-12.

Giles prevails

Giles Braganza (60) just managed to defeatMalcolm Oliver (60) 101-109, 69-116, 117-110 in the first round of the Matharpacady Club open handicap snooker tournament, sponsored by Selvel Publicity and Consultants.
