MRTPC dismisses petitions against Britannia Ind

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, Apr 18: The Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC) has disposed of three petitions against the ``Britannia khao, world cup jao - World Cup '99 contest'' on the grounds that the scheme was neither restrictive nor amounted to unfair trade practice.

The commission held a prima facie opinion that the World Cup contest is not a game of luck or chance for which a consumer is forced to pay a price. The consumer gets his money's worth by buying articles manufactured by Britannia Industries Limited even as he gets an additional benefit of trying his luck for winning a prize.
