BHOPAL, APRIL 18: The Madhya Pradesh Government will publish a status paper about the proposed and ongoing Narmada valley development projects.The status paper will have details about utility, benefits, costs of Narmada valley projects, effect on submergence areas and benefits to the state after their completion, an official release said here yesterday.
A decision to this effect was taken after discussions of the Chief Minister Digvijay Singh with the representatives of Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) recently. In the light of some vital decisions arrived at, Chief Minister Singh has appealed to the NBA activists to call off their ongoing agitation.
According to the decisions taken after discussion with the NBA activists, a time-bound programme will be taken up regarding Bargi dam project and level of the reservoir will be brought to 418 metres by December 15 every year in consonance with the decision of the State Cabinet except in some exceptional circumstances.
A committee headed by Tribal WelfareMinister Urmila Singh is already working to remove various difficulties arising out of Bargi dam project. The meetings of this committee have been frequently convened in the past and some of the problems have been solved.
Besides, a final decision will be taken about construction of the Goi-Beda project in Nimar region only after assessing the utility of these projects. Much of the construction work of the main project has been accomplished in Dhar and it would not be proper to halt the construction. The oustees of the project will be rehabilitated before six months of the completion of the project at any cost.
