AIWA, Samsung slug it out over Kapil Dev

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, APRIL 20: A city court has restrained Japanese electronic goods company AIWA from publishing or broadcasting advertisements featuring Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev.

The direction restraining AIWA was issued by additional district judge Bimla Makin on a suit filed by Korean giant Samsung India Electronics Limited, which held that it had ``exclusive rights to use Kapil Dev'' in its advertisements.

The court ordered an official of Baron Electronics Limited, which markets AIWA goods in India, to appear before it on April 22.

Samsung counsel J R Mirdha argued that the company has a product endorsement agreement with the former all-rounder which gives it exclusive rights to use him in its advertisements.

The advertisement ``holds lot of importance'' in view of the forthcoming cricket World Cup to be held in England, he said.
