Experts to examine marks on Ruchi Chawda

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, APRIL 20: The Gandhinagar police has asked forensic experts to take photographs of the various parts of Ruchi Chawda's body and investigate the marks found on her person.

Chawda (3), who was recently kidnapped on her way home from school, was found abandoned with cigarette-burn injuries at a bus station in the city.

Meanwhile, the State Government has filed an application in the city Sessions Court praying that the anticipatory bail of accused Jaisukh Shah not be extended.

It said Shah was wanted for further investigation in the case after revelations by prime accused Nilesh Jadeja that Shah had seen him and Ruchi Chawda off after the girl was kidnapped. It was Shah who had allegedly dropped them at Pathik Ashram bus stop. Police claimed this confirmed Shah's involvement in the crime. The court had asked the police not to take any action against Shah till the next hearing on April 21.

In another application, the government has also said the court should not grant bail to Daxa Shukla,Bharatsinh Jadeja (Nilesh's father), and Gumansinh Sisodiya, the driver of the school van. Further hearing of the same has been scheduled for Tuesday. The demand for fresh remand was made on the statement given by Nilesh.

Meanwhile, the police on Monday also took fresh statement of Manharba (Nilesh's mother), Janak Dave, and Naresh Rathod in the case. Dave and Rathod are Nilesh's friends.

The police has also included new charges in the case against Nilesh: He is being charged with causing minor and major injury, and kidnapping for sexual purposes.

Rashmi Mewada, who was arrested by the police for making a statement that Ruchi was sacrificed and her body was buried in the Pethapur-Balva region, was released on bail.

Home secretary G Subbarao, addressing reporters in Gandhinagar on Monday, said the case had been handed over to the CBI as the government wanted a fair inquiry.
