Donation
Bhuj: Maninagar Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan has announced a donation of over Rs 13 lakh for three welfare schemes in the border district as part of the golden jubilee celebration of the Swaminathan Temple at Madhapar village near here. The five-day-long celebration for which hundreds of devotees from home and abroad have arrived here was opened by State Transport Minister Bimal Shah on Sunday. A cheque for Rs 3 lakh was handed over to the Yuva Utkarsh Shikshan Mandal by the Minister on the behalf of the Sansthan. The Sansthan spokesman Shastri Swami Bhagat Priyadasji said that cheques for Rs 7 lakh and Rs 3.25 lakh would be given to Industries Minister Suresh Mehta and Gujarat Assembly Speaker Dhirubhai Shah for water resources augmentation project and welfare of women.Master plan
A master plan to meet the drinking water crisis has been prepared and the issue would be discussed at a meeting of district water committee on April 23, says district development officer B Tara. Addressing a district co-ordination committee meeting last week-end, Tara said alternative arrangements were underway to supply water to the villages facing water shortage. She also sanctioned additional tankers for villages in Lakhapat, Abadasa and Bhachau.
Arrested
Ahmedabad: Ellisbridge police on Tuesday arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in an chain snatching case. Amankhan alias Bhangarwalal Mustufakhan Pathan of Sankalitnagar, Juhapura and Tajuddin Khawajmiya also of Juhapur were arrested after the residents and people near L Colony in Ambawadi caught them when they were trying to escape with the chain of local resident Sonal Atul Shah. Police said Sonal had on Monday night came to L Colony to pick her daughter from her dancing class. The two approached her and made an attempt to walk away with the chain. But people caught them when Sonal shouted for help.
Notification
City police commissioner P C Pandey has, in a notification, opened the road from Subhash Bridge circle to Keshavnagar railway bridge and the Keshavnagar, Sabarmati Central Jail, IGP office road to Chimanbhai Bridge going toward Ranip for two-way traffic. Earlier these roads were one-way.
Four missing
Four girls are missing in the city. Rupaben Purshotam Vadilal (22) of Ellisbridge has been missing since Apirl 13 while Guddi Jumriprasad Koli (19) of Jay Shaktinagar Chapra behind Hasol Nursery is missing since April 6. Meanwhile Nenaji B Bhati (25) of Sakalchand Mukhi-ni-Chali in Behrampura is missing since April 1 and Apsarabanu Iqubal Hussaim Sayeed (19) was also missing from her resident in Kamladobhi-ni-Chali, Dudeshwar.
PASA arrest
Bechraji police on Saturday re-arrested Daduji Mulsangh of Dodiyavada on PASA after he was declared absconding by the Mehsana police. Daduji was sent to Bhavnagar jail. Later when Daduji was taken to judicial court in Chansaqma, he escaped near Bagodara village. But on Saturday Daduji was arrested from Behcraji.
Mishap death
An unidentified Muslim in his fifties died on the spot after he fell down from the terrace of Anand Cloth Market in Sarangpur area at about 8.30 a.m. on Monday.
Traffic fine
Traffic police on Monday recovered fine from 1,715 vehicle drivers for violation of traffic rules and also towed away 127 vehicle for wrong parking. Police have also registered 2,024 cases.
