AHMEDABAD, April 20: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is all set to take over the investigation of the the Ruchi Chavda kidnapping case Wednesday onwards.Sources said that the team of officers had arrived on Tuesday evening and a officer of the rank of deputy superintendent of police was expected to come on Tuesday night and take charge of the case.
Meanwhile E. Radhakrishanan has taken charge as district superintendent of police in Gandhinagar. He relieves Ashish Bhatia, the Mehsana district superintendent of police, who had been asked to take additional charge of the Gandhinagar district after former incumbent R.S. Yadav was transferred to a police training college. Radhakrishnan, a 1986 batch IPS officer of the Gujarat cadre, was on deputation to the Central Industrial Security Force.
Meanwhile, police said that Nilesh Jadeja, the prime accused in the case, had complained of urinary problems. He was taken to the civil hospital and discharged after treatment.
On Tuesday, Nilesh was taken to various places in Gandhinagar to get the sequence of the events. Police said that Nilesh was taken to Kadi School in sector 23, from where Ruchi was kidnapped.
Rushi Kumar, brother of Daxa Shukla, another accused in the case, has filed an application against the police plea for remand of his sister. The hearing has been slated for Wednesday.
In Ahmedabad, the case of journalist Jaisukh Shah, also accused of involvement in the case, came up for hearing before the city civil & sessions court.Additional city sessions judge R.J. Dave adjourned the matter and reserved his judgment for Wednesday. On Monday, the state government had filed an application in the court seeking revision of the order giving anticipatory bail to Shah till April 21.
Chief government pleader Akhil P Desai said that since the government had issued notification to hand over the case to the CBI, it did not want to proceed with the application. He submitted that the investigation was at a critical stage. He said Ruchi and Nilesh had named Shah in the case, clearly establishing his involvement.
Counsel J M Panchal, appearing for Shah, submitted that the police investigation did not prove Shah's involvement in the case. He said Ruchi had given her statement in Kagdapith police station and not in Gandhinagar police station. Moreover, Nilesh's statement to the police naming Shah did not prove his involvement and should not be taken into account.
The court will deliver the judgment on Wednesday.
