EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, April 20: In the by-elections held for 47 seats in various self-governing bodies, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has so far bagged 19 seats of the 27 results declared so far. The BJP captured one seat each in Surat Municipal Corporation, Memnagar nagar panchayat, Karamsad nagar panchayat, Songadh nagar panchayat, and two seats in Harij nagar panchayat.

The Congress has captured both seats in Jasdan nagar panchayat. Seats of Viramgam nagarpalika, Chandkheda nagar palika, Kheralu nagar panchayat, Vijapur panchayat and Songadh nagar panchayat were won by Independents. The State Election Commission said that of Botad nagar palika's 36 seat for which elections were held, results of 15 were declared with BJP bagging 14 and Congress one seat. A happy BJP said the by-election results showed that BJP would sweep elections if mid-term elections were held.
