This time, MLA walks into house with naaman, draws sniggers
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHENNAI, APRIL 20: He first came to the Assembly, wearing sportsman's jerkins and a helmet and drew jeers. Then, last week, he sprung a surprise on the unsuspecting members, dangling a hangman's noose and was promptly rebuked by the Speaker.Yesterday, Sundaram came up with another gimmick -- he had smeared sandalpaste `naamam' (a vertical saffron line drawn across the forehead by Vaishnavites) on his forehead. However, it evoked no more than a few muffled sniggers from a few members, while most decided to ignore him. For those who could not catch his symbolic message, Sundaram explained in the Assembly lobby: ``They (DMK) were keen on daubing `naamam' (in Tamil, it figuratively means fooled) on my leader (Jayalalitha) but DMK has been fooled''. (Obviously referring to the fall of the Vajpayee Government despite DMK voting in favour of the motion of confidence.) Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
