CISF overcome OBC, enter semis

NEW DELHI, April 20: A goal in each half saw Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) beat Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) and reach the semi-finals of the Dr B.R. Ambedkar football tournament at the Thyagraj Nagar Sports Complex here on Tuesday. The 2-0 victory enabled CISF grab the top position in Group A with nine points.

The match which was off to an aggressive start even saw players exchanging hot words and the play had to be stopped for a while. When the play resumed the game, CISF striker S.C. opened the account for winners in the 20th minute and added another one to his tally ten minutes later to give CISF the insurmountable lead.

In a late match on Monday, veteran striker Vir Bahadur netted the all important goal for Delhi Vidyut Board (DESU) off a cross from another Jagdish Malhotra few minutes before the close and snatched the full points from Central Sectt. But on Tuesday evening, DVB lost to Delhi Audit 2-3. Rajesh Kashyap, Sameer Jung and Virender Bhakuni scored for the winners while Mahinder and Vikram were the DVB's marksmen.

JN GOLDEN WIN: JN Golden entered the quarter-finals of the Lala Hari Ram Aggarwal cricket tournament beating Kashmere Gate XI by 140 runs. Batting first JN Golden made 333 runs for the loss of four wickets. The highlight of the match was an unbeaten century by Ashu Dani. He made 102 which came of 52 balls. In reply, Kashmere Gate XI were bundled out at 193 in 29.5 overs. Their highest scorer was Kapil Kumar, who made 95.

Brief scores: JN Golden: 333/4 (Ashu Dani 81, Manvinder Singh 65, Rohit Sharma 35, Kapil Kumar 2/58) beat Kashmere Gate XI: 193 in 29.5 overs (Kapil Kuamr 95, Amir Chand 21, Manoj Kumar 22, Bhupender Rana 2/24, Sanjay Bhatia 2/30, Rajender Madan 2/31).
