NASHIK, APRIL 22: The Shiv Sena retained its hold over the Lasalgaon Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) - the biggest onion marketyard in the country - by sweeping the elections to the board of directors today. The Sena bagged 11 of the 16 seats on the board.Elections were held for three panels: the Janavika Panel led by Sena MLA from Yeola, Kalyanrao Patil (sitting chairperson of the APMC) and Sena MLA from Niphad, Mandakini Kadam; the Shetkari Vikas Panel led by former Congress MLA from Niphad, Malojirao Mogal; and the Gramvikas Panel by Independents R D Kshirsagar and Baburao Tukaram Patil.
The Lasalgaon APMC, which handles 3.5 lakh to 4 lakh tonnes of onions per annum, has a turnover of Rs 60 crore to Rs 100 crore per annum.
