CHANDIGARH, April 22: UT Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum-I today issued warrants of arrest for May 26 in the name of Haryana Roadways through its general manager for non-compliance of its orders dated September 2, 1998. The warrants have been issued under Section 29 of the Consumer Protection Act.It was further stated that if the respondent furnished a bail bond of Rs 1,000, he would not be arrested.
The need for action arose due to the non-compliance of Forum's earlier order wherein the respondent had been asked to refund Rs 43 each to five complainants who had been unfairly charged the said amount. In all, an amount of Rs 215 had to be given back. Also, costs of Rs 500 had to be paid.
It had been alleged in the complaint by Pritpal Singh and others that they bought tickets of a deluxe bus running from Chandigarh to Delhi for Rs 118 each, thus paying a total of Rs 590. They stated that the normal fare was Rs 73 but the deluxe rates were more on account of a few extra facilities. The complainants alleged that these facilities were not present in the bus in which they travelled.
On this account they had sought a refund of Rs 43 on each of the five tickets. The same had been granted by the Forum bench comprising president H. C. Modi and members R. K. Behl and Shashi Kanta.
