RSP dissidents plan new national outfit

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
KOLLAM, APRIL 22: The dissidents in the Kerala unit of the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) will contact `like-minded forces' in other State units of the party to form a parallel organisation after May 1, according to Member of the Legislative Assembly Babu Divakaran.

Babu, who is a member of the party's national council, told mediapersons here today that there were such forces in other State units. He blamed party general secretary K Pankajakshan for not convening the RSP national council and formulating policies according to the changing political scenario in the country.

According to Babu, a rethink of the policy and programmes adopted at the party's national conference in February had become inevitable following changes in national politics. There was no harm in extending support to a government led by the Congress, he added. The party had supported the governments led by I K Gujral and Deve Gowda, which were pursuing the same economic policies as that of the Congress Government, he pointed out. Anegative approach in this regard would only help the Bharatiya Janata Party, he warned.

The official group, led by Irrigation Minister V P Ramakrishna Pillai, was violating the party constitution and organisational principles to gain the upper hand in the organisation, Babu alleged.

In this regard, he criticised the minister's special order to recruit 40 casual labourers in Kerala Water Authority.

T J Chandrachoodan, the newly-elected party State secretary, had nothing to do with the working class movement. He was elected to the post violating the consensus, the dissident leaders alleged.
