Easy for Indian Gym

MUMBAI, April 23: Hosts Indian Gymkhana registered easy victories in both the boys and girls section of the Colgate-Palmolive-sponsored 9th DB Prabhu Memorial State-level Sub-junior (under-13) basketball tournament.

The Gymkhana boys thrashed Agnel Gym C 46-6, while their girls beat Agradneya B convincingly at 29-9.

Holders Agradneya A girls also had an easy victory, beating Satara English Medium School 44-1.

Anchit Desai and Venkatesh Chari combined well in the offence to give a creditable victory to the hosts in the boys' section. Anchit scored 12 points, while Venkatesh accounted for 8 points.

Satara English Medium School had a bad day as their boys and girls went down tamely to their opponents.

Girls: Agradneya A 44 (Devashree Patwardhan 14, Sadhana Datar 10) bt Satara English 1 (Ht: 33-0); Indian Gym 29 (Ketaki Guhagarkar 10, S Samyukta 6) bt Agradneya B 9 (Ht: 17-5).

Boys: Indian Gym 46 (Anchit Desai 12, Venkatesh Chari 8) bt Agnel C 6; Mastan YMCA C 20 (Shadab Shaikh8) bt Agnel B 4 (Ht: 12-2); Agradneya 25 (Ninad Katre 6) bt Satara English 13 (Rohit Atre 6). (Ht: 9-1); Savios 14 bt Fatima 12 (Ht:8-6).

Mhatre scores

Prashant Mhatre (55) scored a thrilling 85-86, 83-82, 95-7 triumph over fancied Amit Khansaheb in the first-round of the Sushil Ruia Cup snooker tournament, sponsored by Selvel and Consultant, at the Matharpacady Club, today.

First-round: R Jadhav (60) bt O Dyer (60) 126-68, 115-110; R Daruwala (45) bt PG Phatak (55) 110-92, 92-100, 104-6; F Cordeiro (45) bt S Dixit (55) 110-82, 127-78.
