NEW DELHI, APRIL 24: The National Commission for Women (NCW) members are writing a letter to the Women and Child Development Secretary Kiran Aggarwal to protest against inaction by Chairperson Vibha Parthasarathi. This follows a move by five of the seven nominated members to hold a press conference on Wednesday which was cancelled after the intervention of HRD Minister Murli Manohar Joshi.Though Parthasarathi refused to comment, she did venture to say that the members' ``concerns'' could merely be their ``feelings''. The members have already protested verbally to Aggarwal, saying that their work is at a complete standstill because of ``excessive interference from the Member Secretary Binoo Sen'' and ``excessive reliance on yet-to-be-evolved systems by the Chairperson''.
The members have cited the absence of work allocation and the failure to clear the interim rules and regulations needed to continue with ongoing NCW programmes such as legal awareness programme or the Parvarik Mahila Lok Adalats asparticular reasons for their frustration. The two items have been on the agenda of NCW meetings since March 13, and the next meeting is scheduled only in the first week of May.
The members have complained that because the rules and regulations have not been cleared, the NCW cannot appoint any support staff or consultants to aid in their work.
