State pvt sector can soon set up computer labs

MUMBAI, APRIL 24: Maharashtra Government would allow private participation in establishing computer labs in schools, colleges and universities, according to the chairman of the information technology task force, Prakash Javadekar.

Addressing school and college principals at a day-long seminar on `Internet' at the National Centre for Software Technology here today, Javadekar, who is also the vice chairman of the State planning board, urged colleges and universities to come forward with their own courses in computer application in order to ensure proper human resource development.

Specialised counselling on computer education would start in all district career guidance bureaus within two months, he said adding that schools, colleges and universities in the State have to gear up to take up the challenge.

NCST director Dr S Ramani said while some of the educational institutions in Mumbai already had the internet facilities, the today's workshop would motivate more such educational institutions to go forsuch facilities.
